Phi Kappa Phi Portland State University Chapter
Welcome to the Portland State University Chapter of Phi Kappa Phi.
The National Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi was founded in 1897 and its mission is "to recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others". Phi Kappa Phi is distinct in that it recognizes excellence in scholarship in all university disciplines. Membership is extended by invitation only to students with superior academic records. In addition, membership is also extended to outstanding administrators, faculty, staff, alumni, and distinguished citizens whose achievements render them worthy of membership. With chapters at nearly 300 universities, there is no national honor society whose academic standards are higher. Portland State University received its charter from the Society and was formally installed on February 15, 1980. At PSU, juniors and seniors in the upper 7.5 percent of their class and graduate students who rank in the upper 5 percent of their class are eligible for membership.
The major purpose of Phi Kappa Phi is to recognize academic excellence. Membership in Phi Kappa Phi also provides benefits such as:
- Eligibility for awards and scholarships
- Career Connection Service for members to post resumes and search newly listed position openings
- Web-based seminars that address both educational and career-related topics
- Professional networking opportunities through the online membership directory
- Participation in the Mentor Match program
- Discounts on Dell products and other products and services
The Portland State University Chapter holds three regular events each year:
- Annual meeting generally held in March or early April
- Informational meeting for students held near the end of April or the beginning of May
- Initiation Ceremony and Reception near the end of May
The PSU Chapter is initiating an alumni/student connection program which will be starting next Fall.
